Labrador Retriever

Labrador Retriever

Probably the most popular family dog in the world, the Labrador Retriever is friendly, intelligent, and loves playing with children. Although the puppies are small and extremely cute, they grow into large, fast and powerful dogs so must be trained early and well to fit into family life.

Trained properly, the labrador retriever makes an excellent gundog, but it was originally used by fishermen: the dogs have a natural tendency to retrieve both on land and water. Its coat, which is short and weatherproof, drips dry quickly!

Much favored as a guide dog for the blind, the labrador retriever is also used to sniff out drugs and even land-mines.

The dogs are extremely tolerant with children and make an excellent family dog as long as they are given regular long walks and lots of love!

Labrador Retrievers can be black, yellow or chocolate.

Labrador Retriever Quotes

“A moment later the stevedore appeared on deck leading by a leash one of the most handsome dogs ever seen in Maryland. He was jet-black, sturdy in his front quarters, sleek and powerful in his hind, with a face so intelligent that it seemed he might speak at any moment. His movements were quick, his dark eyes following every development nearby, yet his disposition appeared so equable he seemed always about to smile.
“’He’s called a Labrador,’ Lightfoot said. ‘Finest huntin’ dog ever developed’”
James Michener, "Chesapeake"

"Labradors [are] lousy watchdogs. They usually bark when there is a stranger about, but it is an expression of unmitigated joy at the chance to meet somebody new, not a warning."
Norman Strung
